Texin

Texin is an aromatic polyether-based thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU). It bonds readily to provide a soft-touch feel.

What is Texin?

Texin® is an aromatic polyether-based thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU). It bonds readily to provide a soft-touch feel. It has high elasticity, excellent low-temperature impact strength and flexibility over a wide temperature range. It is easy to color.

Thermoplastic polyurethanes allow for very thin gauges while maintaining strength and properties. They can withstand as much as four times the radiation that other plastics can withstand and have better burst strength.

Texin is one of the six medical polyurethanes we extrude regularly. You can compare it with the other grades on our polyurethane tubing page, or send us your print and we will tell you whether Texin is the right fit for the tube you need.

Texin questions, answered

What is the melting point of Texin?

Typical melting points for Texin grades on our datasheet are 401°F (205°C) to 428°F (220°C). Its glass transition temperature is -16.6°F (-27°C).

What is the density of Texin?

Texin has a specific gravity of 0.0415 lb./in.3 (1.15 g/cc), which corresponds to a density of about 1.15 g/cm³.

How hard is Texin?

On our datasheet, Texin grades measure Shore D 50.

How can Texin tubing be sterilized?

Depending on grade, Texin is compatible with dry heat, ethylene oxide (EtO) and gamma radiation. Confirm the method for your specific grade with the resin supplier.

Does Microspec extrude Texin tubing?

Yes. We extrude Texin into custom medical tubing, including multi-lumen, bump and co-extruded designs. Send us your print or call 603.924.4300 for a quote.
