Custom Medical Tubing & Extrusions

Custom medical extrusions: catheter tubing, multi-lumen tubing, bump tubing, co-extrusions, micro-extrusions, profile extrusions and coated wire.

Custom medical extrusion

Some of the smallest, most complex medical tubing in the industry.

Microspec has earned a global reputation for extruding some of the smallest, most complex medical tubing in the industry, with some of the tightest tolerances. Advanced medical device companies around the world depend on us to extrude custom bump tubing, co-extrusions, micro-extrusions, multi-lumen tubing, profile extrusions and coated wire.

We extrude in any quantity, from small development lots to millions of tubes. With our proprietary processes and tools, we deliver advanced medical tubing that redefines the limits of extrusion technology. We do what works.

As a custom medical tubing manufacturer, we work directly with device engineers on parts made to their print, which is what sets us apart from medical tubing suppliers who sell from a catalog. Because innovation runs deep here, we have been able to help device companies as they develop new products and pursue less invasive, more functional and more efficient medical techniques. Most of the tubing we make is below 0.125 inch (3.2 mm) in outside diameter.

What we extrude

Seven ways to solve a tubing problem.

Most projects combine more than one of these. Start with the one closest to your part.

01

Catheter tubing

Custom catheter shafts from concept to commercial run.

02

Multi-lumen tubing

Many lumens in one tube, as small as 0.012 inch OD.

03

Bump tubing

Industry first in multi-lumen bump tubing, down to 1.9 French.

04

Co-extrusions

Layers, liners and encapsulated radiopaque stripes.

05

Micro-extrusions

Tubing as small as 0.004 inch OD, walls to 12.5 microns.

06

Profile extrusions

D-shaped tubes, heart-shaped lumens and custom shapes.

07

Coated wire

Continuous and discrete coated wire, including nitinol.

Capabilities

What sets our extrusion apart.

BAT tooling technology

In 2013 we invented BAT extrusion tooling and used it to bring a 28-lumen tube into specification in 15 minutes, a step change for multi-lumen extrusion. We have since applied BAT to bump tubing and, in 2024, to co-extrusion.

Thin wall leadership

We consistently extrude walls as thin as 12.5 microns (0.0005 inch) in Pebax, polyurethane, FEP and PEEK, and continue to develop new thin wall processes.

Proprietary crossheads

Our machine shop designs and builds our own crossheads, tips and dies, so we can take on designs other extruders would turn away.

Tackling no-quote jobs

Some of our best work starts as parts other extruders declined to quote. If a tube seems impossible, call us before you change the design.

How a project runs

From your print to a validated part.

Every custom extrusion follows the same path, whatever the technology.

01

Request for quote

We talk through what is critical to function, materials, tolerances, post-processing, inspection methods and realistic lead times before we quote.

02

Tooling and first runs

Tools are designed and cut in-house. We send cross-section images from the first runs and review them with you before parts ship.

03

JumpStart Validation

Validation is planned from the first prototype, with defined phases through OQ and PQ.

04

Commercial production

Runs from thousands to millions of tubes, with in-line laser gauging, vision inspection and Kanban programs.

Questions

Medical extrusion, answered.

Have a question about what we can extrude? Ask us.

What sizes of tubing do you extrude?

Most of our tubing is below 0.125 inch (3.2 mm) OD. We have extruded tubing as small as 0.004 inch OD and specialize in parts up to approximately 0.450 inch.

Do you run prototypes and production?

Yes. We run small development lots and high-volume commercial runs of millions of tubes in the same facility.

Can different extrusion technologies be combined?

Yes. Many parts combine multi-lumen, bump, co-extrusion and micro-extrusion in one tube, such as a co-extruded multi-lumen bump tube.
