In-house R&D for micro-extrusions, coatings, multiple lumens, variable diameters, thin walls and new profiles.
Medical extrusion development is where most of our hardest problems start. You need a custom medical tube with tight and complex specifications, and no one has succeeded in extruding it. That is when device companies come to Microspec. Our culture of innovation and in-house research and development let us solve complex extrusion problems and shorten development from concept to product.
We work closely with clients from initial concept through prototype, on the specific technical requirements of custom tubing. That collaboration matters most for devices that need micro-extrusions, multi-lumen structures or irregular geometries.
Because we design and engineer our own tooling and extrusion processes, product design and manufacturing stay tightly aligned. There are no delays from outsourced development. Design, tooling and process refinement happen under one roof, which shortens the development cycle and reduces the usual risks around manufacturability and performance at scale.
We explore new extrusion techniques and materials without waiting for customer requests, so we are ready when a new need appears. Sometimes we develop a solution before a customer comes to us. Early-stage extrusion capability lets us turn complex designs around quickly, which is especially valuable when a client faces a tight development deadline or works in a highly regulated market.
With deep technical expertise, we are often embedded in a client’s product development process, helping guide feasibility decisions and design iterations from the ground up. We understand extrusion, we have a long record of success, and we are not afraid of failure, because it gives us the power to innovate.

Materials research
Since 1989 we have stayed at the forefront of research into extrusion materials, working objectively with material vendors to decide whether their materials suit advanced medical tubing. We test raw materials, track melt flow lot to lot and alert customers when new sources and new materials come onto the market.
Our materials testing lab is being expanded to four times its current size, with a new materials drying room. See the materials we extrude.
Questions
Questions about developing a new tube? Talk to our team.
Yes. We apply our knowledge of materials, equipment, processes and tooling to your most challenging tubing problems, from concept and feasibility through prototype.
Yes. Our 4,500 square foot R&D laboratory includes dedicated extruders for development runs, so prototypes do not wait on production schedules.
The more complex a part, the more time it takes to meet your exact specifications. Because engineering, tooling and extrusion stay in-house, iterations are faster and more precise at every stage.
Send us your specs, drawing or just describe the problem. A member of our team will follow up personally to walk through tolerances, materials and schedule.
