Estane® is a thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) that is tough, durable, flexible and offers a broad range of hardnesses. It has excellent low temperature flexibility. It can be colored.
Thermoplastic polyurethanes allow for very thin gauges while maintaining strength and properties. They can withstand as much as four times the radiation that other plastics can withstand and have better burst strength.
Estane is one of the six medical polyurethanes we extrude regularly. You can compare it with the other grades on our polyurethane tubing page, or send us your print and we will tell you whether Estane is the right fit for the tube you need.
Typical melting points for Estane grades on our datasheet are 392°F (200°C). Its glass transition temperature is -26°F (-32°C) to 27°F (-2.78°C).
Tensile strength at break for Estane runs 4,600 psi (31.7 MPa) to 8,000 psi (55.2 MPa), with elongation at break of 450% to 780%.
Estane has a specific gravity of 0.0426 lb./in.3 (1.18 g/cc) to 0.0441 lb./in.3 (1.22 g/cc), which corresponds to a density of about 1.18 to 1.22 g/cm³.
On our datasheet, Estane grades measure Shore A 75 to 93 and Shore D 45 to 47.
Depending on grade, Estane is compatible with gamma radiation. Confirm the method for your specific grade with the resin supplier.
Yes. We extrude Estane into custom medical tubing, including multi-lumen, bump and co-extruded designs. Send us your print or call 603.924.4300 for a quote.
