Carbothane is a family of medical-grade polycarbonate-based aliphatic and aromatic polyurethanes.
Carbothane® is a family of medical-grade polycarbonate-based aliphatic and aromatic polyurethanes. They do not yellow and have a higher relative degree of biostability than Tecoflex®. They are available over a wide range of durometers, colors and radiopacifiers, including barium sulfate and tungsten.
Carbothane is one of the six medical polyurethanes we extrude regularly. You can compare it with the other grades on our polyurethane tubing page, or send us your print and we will tell you whether Carbothane is the right fit for the tube you need.
Typical melting points for Carbothane grades on our datasheet are 420°F (215°C) to 440°F (227°C).
Tensile strength at break for Carbothane runs 5,300 psi (36.5 MPa) to 8,500 psi (58.6 MPa), with elongation at break of 360% to 470%.
Carbothane has a specific gravity of 0.0415 lb./in.3 (1.15 g/cc), which corresponds to a density of about 1.15 g/cm³.
On our datasheet, Carbothane grades measure Shore A 73 to 95 and Shore D 60 to 71.
Depending on grade, Carbothane is compatible with ethylene oxide (EtO) and gamma radiation. Confirm the method for your specific grade with the resin supplier.
Yes. We extrude Carbothane into custom medical tubing, including multi-lumen, bump and co-extruded designs. Send us your print or call 603.924.4300 for a quote.
